Assessing Periprosthetic Bone in Total Wrist Arthroplasty: The Validity of DXA
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) can measure bone mineral density (BMD) around joint arthroplasties. DXA has never been used in total wrist arthroplasties (TWA). We investigated (1) whether BMD differs between 2 TWAs implanted the same cadaver forearm, (2) effect of forearm rotation and extension on measured TWA a cadaver, (3) precision patients. Methodology: One ROI distal 1 3 ROIs (ROI1-3) proximal component were used. Ten scans performed femur mode convertible to orthopedic knee without arthroplasty, with ReMotion, Motec one forearm. 5° increments from 90°–70° pronation 0°–20° extension, Motec. Precision was calculated as coefficient variation (CV%) least significant change (LSC%) double examinations converted 40 patients (20 20 Motec). Results: higher all than corresponding ReMotion (p < 0.05). changed 10° supination ROI1, In more precise CV 2.21%–3.08% ROI, 1.66%–2.01% 1.98%–2.87% ROIs. Conclusions: is feasible for measurement using mode, but not TWA.

Periprosthetic bone remodelling in total knee arthroplasty.
ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION The clinical studies have shown that the displacement of the prosthesis components, especially of the tibial one is higher during the first year, after which it reaches an equilibrum position compatible with a good long term functioning. This displacement takes place due to bone remodelling close to the implant secondary to different loading concentrations over differen...
متن کاملThe total wrist arthroplasty
Traditional management of wrist arthritis consists of proximal row carpectomy, partial carpal fusions, or, in the event of pancarpal arthritis, total wrist fusion. Although proximal row carpectomy and partial wrist fusions preserve some motion at the wrist while relieving pain symptoms, the quality of results obtained from these procedures is not predictable or optimal in many instances. Total ...
متن کاملPeriprosthetic tibial bone mineral density changes after total knee arthroplasty
Background and purpose - Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) may cause postoperative periprosthetic bone loss due to stress shielding. Bone also adapts to mechanical alterations such as correction of malalignment. We investigated medium-term changes in bone mineral density (BMD) in tibial periprosthetic bone after TKA. Patients and methods - 86 TKA patients were prospectively measured with dual-energ...
متن کاملTotal Wrist Arthroplasty.
Total wrist arthroplasty using current design implants has evolved into a fairly predictable procedure for rheumatoid, osteoarthritic, and posttraumatic patients. Although complications can occur, the incidence of these has dropped over the past decade with implant design modifications. The article summarizes the current use of total wrist arthroplasty and touches on issues of revision surgery,...

Sixty-four consecutive biaxial total wrist arthroplasties performed in 52 patients between March 1983 and June 1988 were reviewed. Fifty-seven cases involving 45 patients were followed for a minimum of 5 years or until failure. Of the remaining 7 patients, 6 had died and 1 was lost to follow-up study. For the 46 intact implants in living patients, the mean follow-up period was 6.5 years (range,...
